Athlete Responsibility and Assumption of Risk Policy

Training at Your Own Risk

By engaging in coaching services with Boardman Coaching, you acknowledge and agree that participation in any training programme, coaching session, or prescribed activity is undertaken entirely at your own risk.

Endurance training and physical exercise carry an inherent risk of injury, illness, accident, or, in rare cases, serious harm. Boardman Coaching does not accept liability for any injury, accident, loss, damage, or health issue sustained as a result of training, whether during coached sessions or independent workouts completed as part of a prescribed plan.

Fitness to Train

All athletes are responsible for ensuring that they are medically fit and healthy enough to undertake physical training. By commencing coaching, you confirm that:

  • You are physically able to participate in endurance training.

  • You have sought medical advice where appropriate.

  • You have disclosed any known medical conditions, injuries, or health concerns that may affect your training.

Boardman Coaching recommends that athletes consult a qualified medical professional before beginning any new training programme.

Duty to Disclose Injuries and Health Concerns

Athletes must inform Boardman Coaching promptly of:

  • Any injuries, niggles, or persistent pain

  • Illness or changes in medical condition

  • Any symptoms that may affect safe participation in training

Failure to disclose relevant health information may increase the risk of injury. Training plans can only be adjusted, paused, or modified where accurate and timely information is provided.

Boardman Coaching reserves the right to pause or amend training where there are concerns about athlete wellbeing.

Personal Responsibility

Coaching is a collaborative process. While Boardman Coaching provides structured programming, guidance, and support, athletes remain fully responsible for:

  • The execution of training sessions

  • Their own health and wellbeing

  • Decisions taken during training, racing, or independent activity

Qualifications

Thomas Boardman holds an England Athletics coaching qualification and a current DBS certificate. These credentials demonstrate professional standards and safeguarding compliance. However, they do not remove the athlete’s responsibility for their own health, safety, and decision-making during training.
