Your Mission is Our Mission
Boardman Coaching founded on a passion for developing runners as individuals. Delivering personalised training designed to help you progress with confidence and purpose. Working closely with each athlete to understand their goals, background, and lifestyle, creating structured plans that remove the guesswork and ensure every session has meaning.
Whether you’re new to running, chasing a personal best, or feeling stuck at a plateau, our coaching provides the guidance, accountability, and expertise needed to move you forward.
Meet Your Coach
I'm Tom, the founder of Boardman Coaching. I’ve been running since I was eight years old, when I first joined my local running club in Leigh. Since then, my running has taken me from local road races to representing Great Britain as a junior athlete at the World Cross country championships Tokyo.
At university, I studied Sports in the Community while competing for St Mary’s University. My journey continued in the USA on a sports scholarship at Butler University, where I spent three years developing both as a runner and a coach.
Running has shaped my life in every way, across races, terrains, setbacks, and comebacks. Along the way, I’ve learned that progress isn’t just about training harder; it’s about training smarter. Today, I use that experience to help runners move forward with confidence, whether they’re building consistency for the first time or chasing a personal best.
Alongside my coaching qualifications, I am also an Athlete Personal Development and Lifestyle Practitioner. This allows me to support not only performance, but the wider wellbeing of the athlete—helping with confidence, balance, and career transitions, both within and beyond sport.
Boardman Coaching is built on the belief that effective coaching starts with understanding the individual. Rather than fixed plans, I take the time to learn about your goals, strengths, weaknesses, and injury history, then build a training approach that evolves with you.
With a range of coaching options available, you can choose the level of support that suits your life and ambitions. If you’re ready to take the next step in your running, let’s start the conversation.

What the athletes have to say
‘As a coach myself, I’m quite fussy with being coached by anyone else but Tom worked with my perfectionist nature and wasn’t scared to have discussions with me about my weekly plans. Tom was always supportive and encouraging of my goals and communicated with me in a style that suited me. I ran a 3 minute half marathon PB, qualifying for England and an 11 minute marathon PB - both post having a child. ‘
Charlie, England Masters
‘Huge thanks to Tom for coaching our rugby team through our first-ever 10k. He tailored the training perfectly for non-runners, kept us motivated throughout, and helped the whole team cross the finish line feeling strong. Professional, supportive, and highly recommended for anyone looking to take on a new challenge.’
Louise & Leigh Miners Ladies Rugby Team
‘From a 3:50 marathoner to a 2:57 sub 3 hour athlete, Tom’s coaching has been the catalyst for a total transformation. After 19 years of waiting for a 5km breakthrough, he provided the roadmap that finally got me there. A true partnership of his expertise and my own passion for the sport.’

Behind every training plan, call and email, Assistant Coach Pablo is here to help. From advice to motivation, he has built up a lot of experience yelling at athletes.
(Not really, but my marketing team said they’d only do this website if Pablo featured).
